Azle’s History
James Azle Steward settled in 1846 and created the first recorded settlement in Azle. Other settlers later inhabited the land by the local streams. In 1881, the first post office was built. Initially the area was named O’Bar to honor the person responsible for obtaining postal service for the area. James Azle Steward later requested to have the area named Azle, when he donated land for a townsite. Electricity arrived in the late 1930s.
