Andrews’s History
Both the city and the county were named Andrews in honor of Richard Andrews, who was the first Texan soldier to die in the Texas Revolution. The city, which was incorporated in 1937, is the county seat of Andrews County, which was founded in 1876 from Bexar County. The Texas and Pacific Railway stimulated growth and development and in the early 1920s the era of oil production began.

However, the cyclical nature of the oil business (as well as diminishing production on existing wells) has caused the community to look into new means of economic development, such as waste disposal, which in some areas has caused controversy.
