Letter 3173 - Third Party Contact

Letter 3173 is a letter that advises taxpayers that the IRS may be contacting 3rd parties to ask questions. You can't really do anything about it. Don't worry though; your personal information will be kept confidential. We hope.Basically, letter 3173 is a letter or a notice that is sent to you by the Internal Revenue Service; informing you that the Service intends to contact third parties to find out more information about the returns filed by you.

It is necessary for the IRS to notify the taxpayer that they intend to get in touch with the third parties to find out whether the information submitted by the taxpayer is accurate or not. Letter 3173 is issued by the Service to inform you that they have contacted or planning to get in touch with third parties, for the purpose of finding information related to your tax account.

In the letter 3173, you will find the names of the people that the Service has contacted or plan to contact. You do not have to worry about anything when you receive the letter 3173, because there is nothing you can do to prevent the IRS from contacting the third parties. Generally, they will let you know when they are planning to get in touch with third parties to find out details about your tax liability or any other thing they want to know. Interesting enough, they contact the bank and request bank information without sending you this letter!
