Do you have an IRS lien or levy you want removed? Do you need to sell property? Do you need your paycheck? Do you need your checks not to bounce?
Levies take the money that is in a financial account, such as checking, savings, retirement, investment accounts. Removing them will get you your money back.
Liens are filed in the courthouse that prevent you from selling property. Removing them will allow you to sell your property.
Inexperienced IRS representatives, the non CPA or Law firms, will incorrectly do things like put you in uncollectable (code 53) status. They may set you up in a quick payment plan, bragging that they did it in 1-2 days.
The problem is… that band aide solutions hurt you more than help.
It gives you false hope. The IRS can take collection action any time they want to in an uncollectable status situation. I believe it is useless. Payment arrangements without making sure they are coded correctly, and that past year issues are resolved, that you are coached on how to break them, cause taxpayers to have false hopes.
Valid agreements we do stick, and never get broken unless our clients fail to follow our advice for keeping them. Lack of IRS representation experience will cost you more money and headaches than you may realize.
How do I know this?
After 35 years and thousands of successful tax cases, I can recall many people who have come to me wondering why their paychecks or bank accounts were levied when they thought they were all settled with the IRS! Things like this happen when you let the IRS dictate the solutions to you. Liens can be subordinated so you can sell property. Noncollectable status should only be used as a means to an end, and not as a valid installment agreement. Liens can be removed by putting up collateral or by purchasing a surety bond. These methods are unknown to many IRS representation companies.
